Degrees and Programs Information
Lake-Sumter State College offers Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.), Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Science (A.S.) and Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees along with shorter Technical Certificate career education programs.
Bachelor of Applied Science
The Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) is a four-year degree designed to accommodate the unique demands for entry and advancement within specific workforce sectors. Students may apply through a separate and selective application process after completing a related associate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
LSSC currently offers one B.A.S. degree program, Organizational Management, for students with a completed A.A., A.S., or the equivalent.

Associate in Arts
The Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree is also known as the Transfer Degree or the University Parallel Program. It is designed to provide students with the courses needed for the first two years of a bachelor’s degree. Upon completion of the A.A. degree, students may transfer to a 4-year college or university to complete their undergraduate degree.

Associate in Science
Associate in Science (A.S.) degree is the career education and transfer degree of community colleges. This two-year degree is intended to prepare students for immediate entry into the workforce and some programs can lead to transfer to a higher degree in that same field in the State University System.

Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree is the career education program consisting of college level courses that prepare students to directly enter the workforce instead of transferring to a university.

Technical Certificates
Technical Certificates are shorter career education programs which are part of an A.S. or A.A.S. degree program and lead more quickly to employment in specific occupations. College credit hours earned in a Technical Certificate program can be applied towards a related Associate in Applied Science or Associate in Science degree.

Articulation Agreements
A written agreement between institutions that provides students with a non-duplicated sequence of courses leading to degrees or certificates. LSSC has articulation agreements with Florida’s public universities, Lake Technical Center, and Lake, and Sumter County Schools.

Career Pathways (Formerly Tech Prep)
Career Pathways programs prepare students for technically demanding jobs while they are still attending high school. Articulation agreements have been developed between Lake-Sumter Community College and Lake and Sumter County High Schools to help students move seamlessly from high school to college without repeating certain courses. After taking a designated series of technical courses at their high schools, Career Pathways students may be eligible to take assessments. College credit is earned based on passing these assessments.
