Before you enroll in DEP 2004, Psychology of Human Development, you must have completed the prerequisite course, PSY 2012, Introduction to Psychology. DEP 2004 is a fully online course and never meets face-to-face.
Since this is a fully online course, you are expected to be computer proficient and have consistent access to a computer with a high ¬speed (broadband: cable, DSL or satellite) connection and Microsoft Office 2010 installed. Earlier versions of Microsoft Office are unacceptable . Information for this course, including the syllabus, is listed on my website which you can find one month before the start of the course. To findmy website, please go to http://lscc.edu/faculty/cheryl_kelly/SitePages/Home.aspx. Click the link of the left of the page that says “DEP 2004”.
If you are not familiar with the LSCC Bb Learning Management System, please go to http://www.lscc.edu/dl/ to complete the Bb orientation. You must do a browser check and check your java to make sure your computer is optimized to take you through the online experience with no problems. The most current Mozilla FireFox is recommended as the most compatible browser, although some other browsers are acceptable.
Prior to our first class, please go to http://lscc.edu/dl/Documents/Browser%20Check.pdf to check your browser and java settings. You should also go to http://lscc.edu/dl/Documents/how_to_login_to_blackboard.pdf to learn how to log into Blackboard. Blackboard Student User Guide.docx. To view an instructional video, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaiCzZztyDk .
Be sure to activate your Laker account as soon as possible. To communicate with me, Dr. Kelly, your course instructor, prior to the start of the course, you may email me at Kellyc@lscc.edu. Once class starts, you must email using the Bb email.
Also, please have your text book prior to the first day of class and it is highly suggested you start reading the first chapter BEFORE the first day of class.
I look forward to working with you during this next semester. I’m sure you’ll find this psychology class as fascinating as I do. Please make sure you set up a personal weekly study schedule so that you can more easily work throughout the course and you’ll do fine. I can’t wait to get started. See you in ‘class’.
Dr. C. Kelly
