Lake-Sumter Community College

MGF 1106   Liberal Arts Math

This is a hybrid course and therefore will have limited face-to-face meetings. The class will meet on Monday, May 6 for an orientation to Blackboard and MyMathLab. After the first day of class we will only meet for chapter reviews, chapter tests, and the final exam which are primarily on Mondays and Thursdays. Your instructor, Mr. Kieft, will be available to meet with you virtually during predetermined times throughout the semester and will have on-campus office hours as indicated on his faculty website. This hybrid course allows you the freedom to access the course at times convenient to you and your schedule. However, you are expected to do all your work based on the schedule in the class syllabus with specific due and testing dates. Successful MGF 1106 hybrid students are self-motivated and possess the self-discipline needed to manage their time effectively. Due to the nature of this course, it is necessary that you be computer proficient and possess the following skills: competence in the use of email, familiarity with accessing and downloading content from web sources, comfort with navigating possibly unfamiliar programs (such as Blackboard and MyMathLab*), proficient use of a word processing program, and the ability to scan and send attachments via email. The syllabus for the course will be available 30 days prior to the first day of classes on Mr. Kieft’s website, http://www.lscc.edu/faculty/thomas_m_kieft/SitePages/Home.aspx.. Email communication is expected through Laker Mail, make sure you activate your account prior to the beginning of the semester. This course requires a computer system which meets the minimum specifications for BLACKBOARD access. Blackboard is a class management system, where you will access course related materials such as lectures, videos, and handouts. Please visit http://www.lssc.edu to make certain that your computer system meets the minimum requirements for BLACKBOARD. COURSE ACCESS: Students will not have access to this hybrid course until May 6, 2013. To access this hybrid course, log in on the afternoon of the first day of the class through the www.lssc.edu site. From the "quick links" dropdown menu, select "Blackboard" and follow the log in instructions. If you have not taken a previous online or hybrid course, select “BB Orientation”.
