Important Notes from the Instructor:

Welcome to PSY 2012 - Introduction to Psychology. This section is a hybrid section. This means that more than 50%, but less than 80% of coursework is completed through the Blackboard learning system online. "Hybrid" or "Blended" are names commonly used to describe courses in which some traditional face-to-face "seat time" has been replaced by online learning activities. The purpose of a hybrid course is to take advantage of the best features of both face-to-face and online learning. A hybrid course is designed to integrate face-to-face and online activities such as case studies, tutorials, self-testing exercises, simulations, and online group collaborations so that they reinforce, complement, and elaborate one another, instead of treating the online component as an add-on or duplicate of what is taught in the classroom. Students will not have access to this online course until the first day of class. The course syllabus will be available one month before the first day of class on my faculty website. To access the syllabus, select current students on the LSCC homepage and then Faculty Websites. Go to the drop down menu for instructors and select Brooks-Fason, Julie. To access your course syllabus, click on the link marked "Syllabus" and then select the matching course section number. Before then, however, if you have not taken a course that uses Blackboard starting in January of 2012, you should go to www.lscc.edu and select the Blackboard link. To the right of the Blackboard login link, there is a link to the new Blackboard system orientation. It is very important to be familiar with Blackboard before logging in. Once you’ve completed the orientation, go back to the distance learning page and click on the Blackboard logo. There will be a login screen and to the right of that, a video clip showing you how to login. Then, on the first day of class, login and you will see your course on the menu. Click on the course link and proceed to the PSY 2012 homepage for further instructions. Any difficulties in signing on to Blackboard should FIRST be addressed to the LSCC "Help desk" link. If you still require assistance you should then notify Professor Brooks-Fason at her email address: brooksfj@lscc.edu. All technical issues must be resolved within the first week of class.
