LSSC Spring 2013 Commencement Ceremony
Congratulations on your graduation from LSSC! The Commencement Ceremony marks an important milestone in your life. The College faculty and staff are very proud of your achievement and share in your excitement!
What follows is information related to the Commencement Ceremony that we hope will be helpful to you as you plan for this special event.
Q. On what date, at what time and at what location will the Commencement Ceremony take place?
Date: Friday, May 3, 2013
Time: 7:00 PM (Graduate check-in begins at 6:00 PM)
Place: Lake-Sumter State College
Everett A. Kelly Convocation Center

Graduate check-in will begin at 6:00 PM (see below for more information). The ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00 PM and end approximately at 9:00 PM. Graduates and their guests are asked to remain in their seats until the end of the ceremony.
Q. Where should graduates and their guests park for the event?
Graduates and guests should park in the West parking lot at the Leesburg campus by the Fine Arts Building and the Everett A. Kelly Convocation Center. (Please follow event parking signs.)
Q. When and where should students check-in and line-up?
Graduate check-in will begin at promptly at 6:00 PM in the Center for Teaching and Learning on the Leesburg campus. Graduates should report to the Center for Teaching and Learning no later than 6:45 PM for check-in and line-up. Guests should proceed to the Everette A. Kelly Convocation Center for seating as early as possible.
The processional into the main hall will begin promptly at 6:50 PM. Please leave all valuables and personal belongings with a family member or other guests as graduates and staff will not be returning to this building and doors will be locked.
Q. Who should be contacted if graduates or their guests need special accommodations?
For graduates who are registered with the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) and need accommodations, please contact Raelynn Poole at (352)-365-3589 or pooler@lssc.edu.
For all other graduates or their guests who need to request special accommodations, please contact Amber Owen, College Registrar, at (352)-323-3677 or owena@lssc.edu. To ensure sufficient accommodations are met, please contact us no later than Friday, April 26, 2012.
Q. What are graduates required to wear to the Commencement Ceremony?
All graduates must wear a black cap and gown over their street clothing in order to participate in the ceremony. Caps and Gowns will be available in both bookstores arriving April 17, 2013 and cost $39.00 for cap, gown and tassel. You may purchase each item separately. Diploma covers will also be available. Q. Will there be a professional photographer?
A professional photographer will be present to photograph each graduate as they walk across the stage. Graduates will be sent a free color proof and order forms in the mail within a few weeks after the ceremony. Family and friends are asked to take pictures with their graduate before and after the ceremony.
Q. Will the Commencement Ceremony be videotaped?
The Commencement Ceremony will be videotaped and broadcasted live from the LSSC Home Page.

Q. How will graduates with honors and/or Phi Theta Kappa membership be recognized at the commencement ceremony?
LSSC will confer honors recognition for graduates based on the following scholastic achievement after Spring 2013 semester final grades have posted:
· Cum Laude: 3.40-3.59 cumulative GPA
· Magna Cum Laude: 3.60-3.79 cumulative GPA
· Summa Cum Laude: 3.80-4.00 cumulative GPA
Honor cords and tassels will be distributed during check-in in the Center for Teaching and Learning at the designated Honors table.
Honor cords and tassels will only be given to those students that have completed all graduation requirements and have met the previously mentioned scholastic achievement for the Spring 2013 semester.
Students who have outstanding transfer work, incomplete graduation requirements or are planning to complete their requirements in an upcoming semester will not be eligible for honors recognition at the Spring 2013 commencement ceremony.

Q. How many tickets may graduates obtain for guests?
Two (2) tickets to the Gymnasium (Everett A. Kelly Convocation Center) and two (2) tickets to the overflow areas in the Fine Arts Auditorium/Magnolia Room will be distributed to each graduate.
At this time, there are no additional tickets available. After noon on May 1, 2013, we will reassess tickets that were not claimed and we will send a notification through Laker Mail with details of how to obtain those tickets, if available.
Q. How and when may graduates pick up their commencement ceremony tickets?
All graduates have been sent an email notification to their Laker Mail to inform them of where they may claim thier Commenencement Ceremony tickets.
Tickets will be available from 8:00 AM, Tuesday, April 23, 2013 to 12:00 PM (noon), Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

Q. When will diplomas, certificates and official transcripts be available?
Approximately 6-10 weeks after the Spring 2013 Commencement Ceremony, all diplomas and certificates will be mailed to the address listed on the graduate's file. Diplomas will not be issued if the graduate's record has a hold.
All financial obligations must be met in order to receive a diploma and official transcripts. To find out if you have a hold or financial obligation, log in to LOIS to verify your account information.
To order official transcripts with your official degree posted, please visit our Requesting Official Transcripts page. During the ordering process, be sure to select the, “Hold for current semester degrees have been posted” option. This will hold your transcript until your official degree has been posted.
