Advising Student with Advisor

Advising services at LSCC are designed to assist students in both their personal and educational development. Advisors are available at all campuses by appointment to assist students with their adjustment to college life, interventions for personal concerns, making and coordinating academic plans, and exploring career options. All issues are treated confidentially.

Whether you are searching for a new career path or know exactly what you want to pursue, LSCC Academic and Career Advisors can help you clarify values regarding life and work, identify possible career interests and understand various jobs, use online tools to obtain academic and career information, select an academic program, and register for classes.

It is important for students to develop and maintain contact with an advisor throughout their college career. If required to attend a New Student Orientation session prior to the first semester, the first advising session will take place during the live segment of orientation. If not required to attend New Student Orientation prior to the first semester, students need to schedule an appointment with an advisor at the LSCC campus closest to them. Plan to meet with an advisor at least once during each semester of enrollment thereafter.

Advisors do preliminary graduation audits for all students, but official graduation checks are performed by the records office. Until the final check is performed, it is not possible for LSCC to verify eligibility for graduation. It is each student’s responsibility to make sure that he or she has fulfilled all graduation requirements.

Workshops and Class Presentations

Throughout the year, academic and career advisors will provide various workshops and class programming to help students prepare both academically and for the world of work. Class presentations are offered monthly by request of faculty and include areas like resume building, career planning, FACTS.ORG, and Myers-Briggs. Workshops or career planning events are also offered on each campus and can include programs like the following: The Resume Doctor, Employment Readiness, Job Search Skills, Career Research and Planning, and Majors/Career Fair.

LINKS is another program that brings academic advisors into the classroom – specifically college preparatory English, reading, and math courses. The goal of this program is to provide students with important and relevant information, to establish brief face-to-face contact with an academic advisor, and to help connect students with appropriate resources that they will need to successfully transition to the college experience here at LSCC.
