According to the Americans with Disabilities Act, an individual with a disability is one who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. A qualified professional must document disabilities in writing. The documenting letter and/or report must include:
What services are available to students with disabilities? LSCC offers a comprehensive academic support program for qualified students, based on the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. All accommodations and services are arranged on an individual, case-by-case basis. The student must provide qualifying medical or psychological documentation that indicates the specific need for a reasonable accommodation in order to have equal access to programs and activities of the College. The student must also personally request, in a timely manner, that approved accommodations be provided for specific classes or activities.
How do I apply for services through OSD? To apply for OSD services at any of the Lake-Sumter Community College campuses, call (352) 365-3574 to schedule an appointment with an OSD counselor. You may apply for services at any time, but it is best to apply well before an academic term begins.
