Student Ambassadors
Goals and Objectives
The Lake-Sumter Community College Ambassador Program began in 1987 as a method
for providing leadership experience for students and tangible support for LSCC
functions. Ambassadors are offered special opportunities to explore their
leadership and service potentials through an accelerated personal development
program. Ambassadors serve in a variety of capacities and participate in
training opportunities unique to the community college setting. Each semester,
in compensation for their service, Ambassadors receive a stipend through the
Lake-Sumter Community College Foundation, Inc.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Ambassador program, students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
(cumulative average) during the semester they apply for admittance to the
program. The GPA will be determined by the most recent college grade report or
high school transcript.
Once accepted, Ambassadors must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in order to remain in
good standing. Continued standing in the program will be determined by the
Ambassadors GPA at the start of each semester and by evaluations of his or her
performance in the program. Ambassadors must maintain a caring, service-oriented
attitude with respect to the college and program objectives. This attitude is
represented in a willingness to attend events and to serve in capacities deemed
appropriate by the program Coordinator.
Continued academic progress toward each students goal is central to the
philosophy of the Ambassador program. Students are encouraged to apply only if
they believe the program and service commitment will enhance their educational
goals without hindering academic progress.
Ambassador Duties
Ambassadors perform various duties and services as LSCC representatives. Their
duties include, but are not limited to, ushering at Performing Arts Series
functions and other events, representing the college in outreach capacities,
meeting and greeting campus visitors, working in college offices, assisting with
receptions and special events including the Gala Auction, and participating in
student leadership sessions.
Award of Stipend
Each Ambassador receives a $600 stipend per semester for 80 hours of documented
service. The stipend is awarded in two installments: $300 after 40 hours of
service have been performed and $300 after a total of 80 hours of service have
been performed.
Service hours are defined as hours worked for Lake-Sumter Community College in
the role of an LSCC Ambassador. An average of five (5) hours each week will
result in the expected 80 hours per semester commitment.
