Rich Billings begins his first season as the head coach of the Lakers after being named in July 2007. This will be Billings’ third season with LSCC overall. After graduating from Leesburg High School in 2001, Billings came to LSCC as an outfielder where he played for former Laker head coach Mike Matulia. Billings started every game in his career at LSCC and earned All-Mid Florida Conference honors following the 2002 season. Following the 2003 season, Billings was named the Bob and Merrell Westrick Male Student-Athlete of the Year. He was also named to the USA Today All-Academic Team. He was a member of the Florida All-Academic Team both years at LSCC and was also a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Billings received his Associate of Arts Degree from LSCC in 2003. He went on to play his final two years for Tony Skole at East Tennessee State University. Billings earned his Bachelors Degree in History in December 2005 from ETSU. He was a member of the All-Southern Conference Academic Team both seasons. Billings went on to serve as a student-assistant coach at ETSU during the fall of 2005. Billings returned to LSCC in the spring of 2006 as an assistant coach. During his first season, Billings worked with the hitters and the outfielders. During the 2007 season, Billings served as the third base coach for the Lakers. In his two seasons with the Lakers, Billings has coached four All-Conference players and had one drafted in the major league baseball draft. He has also had six players move on to play at the Division I level.
Josh Holt enters his second season as an assistant coach at Lake-Sumter Community College, and first as the recruiting coordinator and pitching coach for the Lakers. Holt came to Lake-Sumter Community College from Florida Tech University where he served as an assistant baseball coach in the spring 2006. He graduated from Leesburg High School in 2001 and then furthered his baseball career at Flagler College. While at Flagler College, he was a four-year starter at first base. He graduated from Flagler College in December 2005 with a Secondary Education-Social Science degree. Holt went on to earn his Master’s degree from the University of Phoenix in March 2007. Holt also has head coaching experience by leading the Leesburg Lightning of the Florida Collegiate Summer League to the championship in its inaugural season in the summer of 2007 with a record of 23-12. In the summer 2006, Holt also won the FCSL Championship as an assistant coach with the Winter Park Diamond Dogs. In three years as a collegiate coach, Holt has coached four All-Conference performers and two All-Americans. Holt has also seen three of his former players drafted in professional baseball. Holt comes from a baseball family; his father Roger played in the New York Yankees organization in the 1970’s and his brother Jonathan is currently in the Cleveland Indians organization after being a 2007 5th round draft pick out of the University of Tampa. Holt is currently the Head Groundskeeper for the LSCC Athletic Complex and is an adjunct professor in the Student Development Department. He resides in Leesburg with his wife Lindsay.
Lisa Huntley, a native of Deerfield Beach, Fla., is in her first season at Lake-Sumter Community College. Huntley came from Cedar Valley College where she served for five seasons. She guided the Lady Suns to the 2003 NJCAA Division III national title. Prior to that, she was at Louisiana Tech University, where she served as the head coach for three seasons. There she led the Techsters to back-to-back 5th place finishes in the very competitive Sun Belt Conference in her first two seasons. Prior to Louisiana Tech, Huntley served as an assistant coach at Southern Mississippi University for one year. Huntley began her coaching career as an assistant at Houston Baptist University in 1991, and following her two year stint there, she moved on to become the head coach at Huston Tillotson College, in Austin, TX where she coached until 1995. Lisa then made the jump to the NCAA Division I level as an assistant coach at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK, helping lead the program to the NCAA tournament. A successful player in her own right, Huntley earned two letters at the University of Tennessee from 79-80. While playing for the Lady Vol's, she was named team MVP as a junior and senior. She was also named all-state her junior year and All-SEC her junior and senior seasons. In 1987, Lisa was invited to the United States Olympic tryouts and also played international volleyball from 1986 through 1987.
Rachel Bruce comes to Lake-Sumter from King College in Bristol, TN where she completed her intercollegiate volleyball career. While playing at King, Bruce led her team to two regular season conference championships, two conference tournament championships, one regional championship, and one NAIA National Championship Appearance. During her two years at King College, Bruce earned several awards for her efforts both on and off the court. Bruce was named a member of the NAIA Region XII All Tournament Team, AAC All Conference Team, an AAC Scholar Athlete, and an NAIA National Scholar Athlete. She also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Interdisciplinary Studies while maintaining a high enough GPA to remain on the President’s List. Before signing to play for King College, Bruce had an outstanding two years while playing for the LSCC Lady Lakers. During both her freshman and sophomore years at LSCC Bruce maintained the starting middle blocker position. She was ranked 5th in the nation for hitting percentage in the NJCAA. Bruce aided her team in making two state appearances, was named a Who’s Who among American Junior Colleges, made the Mid-Florida Conference All-Academic Team, and the Mid-Florida All Conference Team.
Kelly Golden begins her first season as head coach for the Lakers. Golden attended Edgewater High School where she played volleyball, soccer and softball. She continued to Lake City Community College on a softball scholarship and received her Associate of Arts Degree in 2004. Kelly continued her softball career at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee and received her Bachelors in Physical Education in 2006. She remained with the team as an Assistant Coach in 2007.
Ashley Baney begins her second season as an assistant with the LSCC softball team. Baney joins the coaching staff of the Lady Lakers just after the completion of her playing career at LSCC. For the last two seasons Baney has been an integral part of the softball program. Baney played every position for the Lady Lakers over the past two seasons while most of her playing time was spent as a middle infielder.
A Native of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, Cathy begins her first season as a pitching coach for the Lakers. Cathy came to Florida her freshman year to Indian River Community College, continued to Lake City Community College and finished her softball career at Thomas University in southern Georgia.
