Lake-Sumter CC Softball ends year with doubleheader split against HCC

The Lake-Sumter Community College softball team split a doubleheader at home Tuesday against Hillsborough Community College in the regular-season finale for both teams. LSCC won the first game 8-0, but dropped the nightcap 4-3. Megan Holm (pictured at left) earned the shutout win in the opener. Erin DiRobbio went 2-for-4 and Brazia Keys scored twice. Caitlin Bloom went 3-for-3 and Brittany Broughton had two RBIs. In the nightcap, Broughton also had a double, a home run and three RBIs. The game also marked the end of the careers at LSCC for four sophomores: Keys, Kristin Gaul, Patricia Saldivar and Dominique Smith. The four players were honored during a ceremony between games of the doubleheader. With the split, the Lakers close out their season with a 13-44 record. With 15 players expected to return next season, LSCC coach Kelly Golden believes the Lakers should show marked improvement next season.

Lakers lose both to Seminole

Lake-Sumter Community College stumbled twice against Seminole Community College. Game scores were 9-3 and 9-0.

Megan Holm started both games and was saddled with the loss in both contests. She got relief help from Leila Savage. Erin DiRobbio went 2-for-4 in game one with a run scored and an RBI. Caitlin Bloom went 2-for-4 and Dominique Smith went 1-for-3.

In the nightcap, Bloom went 1-for-2. The Lakers host Central Florida Community College at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Lakers Sweep St. John’s

Lake-Sumter Community College won its first Mid-Florida Conference games of the season Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of St. Johns River Community College at the LSCC softball complex.

Game scores were 4-3 in eight innings the opener and 4-2 in 10 innings in the nightcap.

In game one, the Lakers (9-24 overall, 2-8 in Mid-Florida Conference) fell behind 3-0 before rebounding for the win.

Erin DiRobbio paced LSCC with a 3-for-4 performance with a run scored. Brittany DiRobbio went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Karmen Respecio went 1-for-4, Lauren Harvey went 1-for-3 and Cortney Ross went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.

Megan Holm earned the win.

In the nightcap, the Lakers fell behind 2-1 in the 10th inning before scoring three runs, capped by a two-run walkoff home run by Respecio.

Respecio's blast plated Erin DiRobbio with the winning run.

Brittany DiRobbio went 2-for-4, Kristin Gaul went 3-for-4 and Brittany Broughton went 2-for-4.

Respecio went 1-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Leila Savage was the winning pitcher.

LSCC will play in the Pasco-Hernando CC tournament Saturday in New Port Richey.

 

Lakers lose two close ones to FCCJ

Lake-Sumter Community College led in both games against Florida Community College-Jacksonville, but were victimized by late offensive outbursts and dropped a doubleheader.


Game scores were 3-2 and 5-2.


In the first game, the Lakers took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning, but FCC-J scored a pair of runs with two outs for the victory.
Leila Savage was tagged with loss in relief of Megan Holm.


Brazia Keys went 1-for-3 with a double and and RBI for the Lakers. Katie Huggins went 3-for-3 and Lauren Harvey was 1-for-2 with a run scored.

In the nightcap, LSCC took a 2-0 lead in the third, but FCC-J responded with five unanswered runs for the win.

Holm took the loss.


Erin DiRobbio paced LSCC's offense in game two, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Keys also scored.

Caitlin Bloom went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Huggins was 1-for-4 with a double.

Brittany DiRobbio was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Caitlin Griffis was 2-for-3 and Kristin Gaul went 1-for-3.

 

 

Softball Sweeps Hillsborough

Lake Sumter Community College Softball team improved its record to 6 – 14 with a doubleheader sweep against Hillsborough Community College. LSCC scored five runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and added one more in the seventh to win the opener 7-5. Erin DiRobbio went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored, Cortney Ross was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s, Caitlin Bloom went 1-for-4 with a run scored, Katie Huggins was 1-for-3 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored, Dominique Smith was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Karmen Respicio was 1-for-4 with an RBI and 1 run scored and Lauren Harvey also had an RBI. Leila Savage was the winning pitcher.

The Lakers won the second game 2-0 by scoring one run in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth. Erin DiRobbio went 2-for-3 with a triple and run scored, Caitlin Bloom was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Caitlin Griffis was a run scored and Kristin Gaul was 1-for-2. Megan Holm was the winning pitcher.

South Florida vs. Lake-Sumter

Lake-Sumter Community College dropped a doubleheader against South Florida Community College.
Scores were 15-1 and 8-5.

Leila Savage was tagged with the loss in game one, while Brittany DiRobbio got the loss in game two. Brazia Keys went 1-for-3 in the opener and Cortney Ross was 1-for-2. Katie Huggins had an RBI, and Erin DiRobbio scored the Lakers' lone run.

In the nightcap, Erin DiRobbio scored two runs, Caitlin Bloom went 1-for-4 with a run scored, Huggins was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Ross was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Caitlin Griffis was 1-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and Brittany DiRobbio was 1-for-1. The Lakers (4-12) play Indian River CC at 1 p.m. today in Fort Pierce.

Softball Sweeps Brevard

Softball LEESBURG -- Lake-Sumter Community College improved its record to 4-10 Thursday with a doubleheader sweep against Brevard Community College. LSCC scored four runs in the sixth inning to earn a 5-4 win in the opener and scored a pair of runs in the first to pick up a 2-1 win in the nightcap.

 

 

LSCC Drops double-header


Lake-Sumter Community College dropped a double-header Tuesday against Manatee Community College in Bradenton. Game scores werre 4-0 in the opener and 6-4 in the nightcap.

LSCC starter in game one Megan Holm held Manatee CC scoreless until the fourth inning when she allowed a run. Manatee added three insurance scores in the fifth.

Brazia Keys went 1-for-3 for the Lakers.

In the second game, LSCC took a 2-2 tie into the fifth before surrending four runs.

Leila Savage was tagged with the loss.

Caitlin Bloom went 2-for-3 for LSCC with a run scored, Erin DiRobbio went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, and former Leesburg High School standout Lauren Harvey went 1-for-2 and also reached base on a walk.

LSCC travels to Cocoa at 4 p.m. Thursday for a doubleheader against Brevard CC.

The Lakers' home opener is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday with a doubleheader against Manatee CC.

 

 

AVON PARK --

Lake-Sumter Community College dropped a doubleheader against South Florida Community College. The Lakers fell 5-1 in the opener and 7-4 in the nightcap. Leila Savage started and took the loss in game one. In game two, Erin DiRobbio and Brittany DiRobbio each went 2-for-4 for the Lakers. LSCC travels to Bradenton at 5 p.m. Tuesday for a doubleheader against Manatee Community College.
