LEESBURG, FL - After nine years as President of Lake-Sumter Community College, Dr. Robert W. Westrick will be retiring the end of June 2002. Over two hundred personal friends, co-workers, politicians, education professionals, business and civic leaders, and family members gathered on April 13th in Mission Inn Resort's Ballroom, to acknowledge Dr. Westrick's personal and career achievements. There was also plenty of good-natured kidding, as well, provided by guest speakers and master of ceremonies the Honorable Everett Kelly. A congratulatory letter was read from Florida Governor Jeb Bush, while Ken Bragg, on behalf of Kentucky Governor Paul Patton, announced that Dr. Westrick was bestowed the title of "Honorary Kentucky Colonel". Dr. Westrick received his Bachelor in Arts degree from Louisville's Bellarmine College. LSCC has grown to a three campus institution serving over 3500 students annually during Dr. Westrick's tenure as President. Upon retirement, Dr. Westrick and his wife Merrell plan to tour Europe, as well as enjoy the June 2002 birthday of their first grandchild. |
