Lake-Sumter Community College Ranks First on State Tests Leesburg, FL - Among all Florida colleges and universities, Lake-Sumter Community College placed first, along with the University of Florida, in having the largest percentage of students pass the state's 2000-2001 College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) on the first attempt. This also means that LSCC students were number one among Florida's 28 community colleges. 68% of LSCC students taking the test successfully completed the four-part exam, which includes an essay, English language skills, reading and mathematics. The overall state totals for first-time-passing for universities were 43%, and 35% for community colleges. Students wishing to enroll in upper division programs and who have completed at least 18 credit hours must meet the test requirements before advancing to higher level courses. Since the state initiated CLAST in 1982, LSCC students have consistently placed in the top ten. |
