Lake-Sumter Community College Hosts High School Hi-Q Academic Tournament

Lake-Sumter Community College will host eight Lake and Sumter high schools during its annual Invitational Hi-Q Tournament.

The Friday (April 4th) competition is hosted by LSCC's Brain Bowl Team, and will be held in the Everett A. Kelly Convocation Center Gym. Students are to be welcomed at 9 am. The competition will run from 9:30 am until 12 noon, (30 minutes for lunch) then from 12:35 through 2:25 pm. Awards will be presented at 2:30 pm.

The Tournament is a round-robin format, so that every participating school has the opportunity to compete against all other schools. Teams can bring as many members as they choose, but only four players compete at a time. The seven rounds are split into two 14-minute halves. Coaches may change out players before each of these halves. Every 30 minutes the teams rotate to compete with a different school. This year's high school participants are: East Ridge High School, Eustis High School, Leesburg High School, Montverde Academy, Mount Dora High School, South Lake High School, Tavares High School and Wildwood High School.

LSCC's Brain Bowl Team, of Krystal Bedard, Delrose Tobie, Terry Washburn and Tim Welton, not only created questions from the humanities, social science, natural science and math diciplines, but will also officiate the Tournament. The LSCC Brain Bowl Team coached by instructor Beth McNulty, competes in college/university academic tournaments throughout the year.
