In the News... State Chancellor To Be Honored This Saturday
LEESBURG - The first Chancellor of Colleges and Universities for the state of Florida is a "hometown girl." Dr. Debra Dabney Austin, daughter of H.O. Coach and Rebecca Dabney of Leesburg, was recently appointed by Commissioner of Education Jim Horne to this important leadership position. Having earned her B.A. from Michigan State University and M.A. from the University of Florida, Dr. Austin started her career in education as an English instructor at Lake-Sumter Community College. She then went on to earn her M.B.A. and Ph.D. from Florida State University. Dr. Austin was FSU's Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs when named to the newly-created Chancellor post. Family, friends and colleagues will gather to acknowledge and celebrate her accomplishments this Saturday, June 14. A prayer/praise service will be held at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Leesburg, from 1:45 until 3:30 pm. A reception, hosted by Lake-Sumter Community College, will follow from 4 until 6 pm, in the Leesburg Campus Convocation Center. The public is cordially invited to attend both events. For additional information call 787-7963 or 407-463-1568. |
