Lake-Sumter Community College Kids' College Makes Its Debut at The Villages

LEESBURG - Lake-Sumter Community College has added The Villages Charter Middle School as a venue for its popular Kids' College program. For fifteen years, LSCC's Continuing Education office has held this annual summer time event on its Leesburg Campus. Three years ago, it added it to the South Lake Campus, where it has also been a huge success. This year it is bringing Kids' College to The Villages.

The fun and educational camp is designed for students entering the 2nd through 7th grades (ages 7 to 12), with a selection to fit any interestart, baton twirling, ceramics, crafts, math & the stock market, photography, science, sewing, sports, and writing. The eight-day (Mondays through Thursdays) Kids' College runs from June 30 through July 10. Children can enroll for full-day, 9 am until 4 pm, or half-day sessions, 9 am until 12:15 pm or 12:45 until 4 pm. Kids bring their own lunches to the full day camps. Late care is available from 4 until 5:15 pm. Classes fill up quickly, so call the Sumter Campus at 352-568-0001 or the Leesburg Campus at 352-365-3556.

LSCCs Continuing Education office will also be sponsoring its third annual Young Writers' Camp, starting June 30 through July 10. Offered during eight half-day sessions, from 1:30 until 4:45 pm, the Leesburg Campus camp enhances the skills of budding young 4th through 7th grade authors and poets. Student-to-teacher ratio is low, which allows for great interaction between the students and the experienced instructors, so register early by calling 352-365-3556.

For children who enjoy music, the Central Florida Youth Orchestras Sounds of Summer Instrumental Music Camp will be held from July 7 through July 18, 9 am until 1:30 pm, for students between the ages of 6 to 19. Beginning students of the violin, viola, cello and bass, as well as young musicians currently playing strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion can enroll in either one-week or two-week sessions. Classes will run Mondays through Thursdays on LSCCs Leesburg Campus and Fridays in Leesburgs Cultural Arts Building in Venetian Gardens. For more information call 352-787-4838.
