New Positions Added to Lake-Sumter Community College Staff

LEESBURG - Lake-Sumter Community College recently announced a One Concept reorganization plan that consolidated and centralized administrative duties for all three campuses. This afforded LSCC the opportunity to add four new faculty positions, fill vacancies, and add two new crucial positions without any increase in personnel cost.

Since state funding is not keeping up with LSCCs growth, financial support from the community and the development of corporate partnerships are increasingly important. As the new Director of Corporate Training and Community Services, Jim Thigpen (former Sumter Campus Administrator) will develop these relationships, as well as oversee LSCCs corporate training and continuing education programs, and the Business Assistance Center. The equally-important new position of Director of Budget and Management Reports will develop and monitor the college budget, and conduct reviews of processes and operations throughout the year. John Froman, former Budget Director for Daytona Beach Community College, has been named to this post. He will also maintain and analyze numerous financial and administrative reports, crucial to the funding, accreditation and evaluation of the college. The existing Director of Financial Aid position, vacant for a short time, has been filled by David Sankies, a computer systems consultant and former Assistant Director of Financial Aid at Fairfield University.

The One Concept plan calls for a senior administrator to serve as a Special Advisor to each campus. These Special Advisors will have weekly campus schedules, meet regularly with community leaders, and play active roles in area organizations. As advocates for their communities, they will advise the President on how to best serve their campus constituents. The Leesburg / North Lake Special Advisor will be Business Assistance Center Manager Ken Bragg, South Lake Special Advisor will be Vice President of Student Services Jane Miller, and Sumter Special Advisor will be Director of Corporate Training and Community Services Jim Thigpen.

Responsibility for campus coordination has also been assigned. Through direct communication with senior administrators, On-site Coordinators will supervise advising and office support staff on their respective campuses. The On-site Coordinator for the Sumter Campus is 25-year Sumter County resident Betsy Ruano. She joined the Sumterville staff seven years ago, one year after its creation, and is currently its Student Services Advisor. Her husband Vince is Bushnells City Manager. Clermont resident and Student Services Advisor Sean Armstrong will assume South Lake Campus On-site Coordinator duties. His wife Tonya also works on the South Lake Campus as a member of the UCF staff.
LSCCs top administrators will also have regularly-scheduled days on the Sumter and South Lake Campuses. Please take this opportunity to discuss any issue regarding Lake-Sumter Community College.
