In the News... Lake-Sumter Community College Offers Career Training in Many Health Fields LEESBURG - Lake-Sumter Community College offers many career-education programs...several in the health care industry, which is in great need of professionals. LSCC's nursing program is one of the most highly-respected in Central Florida. In fact, its 2002 nursing class placed second, among all colleges and universities, in having the largest percentage of students pass the state's National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) on the first attempt. LSCC's two-year Associate in Science (A.S.) degree in Nursing prepares students to sit for this exam, which is required to become a registered nurse. Another option is the Licensed Practical Nurse Bridge Program, in which LPN's can apply their previous education toward the first year of the two-year RN degree. 2+2 degrees, through LSCC's partnership with UCF, offer students the option of continuing toward a four-year Bachelor in Science degree in Nursing without leaving Lake County. There is also an A.S. degree in Emergency Medical Services, a two-year Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Health Information Management, certificates in Medical Coder/Biller and Medical Office Management, and an Applied Technology Diploma in Medical Record Transcription. Pick up a Summer Schedule or visit LSCCs website to see the variety of other educational programs offered. Two of Lake-Sumter Community College's three summer terms start May 5, and students have the convenience of registering online for all three at www.lscc.cc.fl.us. New students need to apply in person at any of LSCC's campuses in Clermont, Leesburg, and Sumterville. Schedules are available at all Lake and Sumter County Winn Dixie stores, city libraries and chambers, and any LSCC campus. For more information call 323-3665. |
