Lake-Sumter Community College Graduates Earn Top Honors

LSCC President Dr. Charles Mojock presented graduate Jacqueline Keough the President's Award for leadership, service and scholarshipLeesburg - Lake-Sumter Community College had the largest processional in its history, during the colleges 40th Annual Commencement Ceremony last Friday (5/9). Two hundred and eighty-nine students earned their degrees, certificates, and applied technology diplomas. The highpoint of the LSCCs graduating ceremony is always the students and each was personally congratulated by District Board of Trustees Chairman Jon Simpson, President Dr. Charles Mojock, and Commencement Speaker Julia Johnson.

Vice President of Academic Services Dr. Wes Estey presented the Academic Excellence Award to LSCC graduate Stormie Gayle BighamMany special awards were also acknowledged during the evening. The "Presidents Award" was presented to graduate Jacqueline Keough, based on leadership, service and scholarship. She served as president of both Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Leesburg Campus Student Government Association. She has been awarded Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges, All-USA Academic Team and All-Florida Academic Team memberships, the Departmental Academic Excellence Award in Biological Sciences, Student Activities Graduates Award, Leadership through Service Award, and more, as well as having a 3.88 GPA. The Academic Excellence Award was presented to Stormie Gayle Bigham for sustaining a perfect 4.0 GPA during her LSCC career. Departmental Academic Excellence Award recipients were: Oriana Russe-Rivera (graphics) and Justin Van Den Heuve (theatre) for art, Melissa Williams for English, Judy "Miaoyu" Wang for mathematics, Kimberly Chrisman for nursing, Rodney Van Doren II and Sherika

Graham for chemistry, and Susan Civic for The Angler (journalism). Richard Billings earned a "Student Activities Graduates Award."

Fifteen students graduated Summa Cum Laude (3.8-4.0 GPA), 37 Magna Cum Laude (3.6-3.79 GPA) and 55 Cum Laude (3.4-3.59 GPA). Six dual enrollment students earned their two-year college degrees and their high school diplomas during the same month.
