Lake-Sumter Community College to Offer Fun and Educational Summer Camps

LEESBURG - A younger group of students will be taking classes on Lake-Sumter Community College campuses this summer when the college hosts several camps designed for children between 6 to 12 years of age, and older if youre a young musician.

LSCCs Kids College adds The Villages, to its Leesburg and South Lake Campus sites this year, and will offer the many fun and educational courses that have made the annual camp so popular. Classes are designed for students who will be entering the 2nd through 7th grades (ages 7 to 12) and will offer a selection to fit any interest...theater, crafts, sports, science, computers, magic and much more. Children can enroll for full day, 9 am until 4 pm, or half- day sessions, 9 am until 12:15 pm or 12:45 until 4 pm. Kids bring their own lunches to the full day camps. Late care is available from 4 until 5:15 pm. Two-week camps will be held on the Leesburg Campus on June 2 through 12, and again on June 16 through 26; and on the South Lake Campus, June 30 through July 10, and again on July 14 through 24. LSCCs new Villages Charter Middle School Kids College will be held June 30 through July 10. Classes fill up quickly, so call 365-3556 for Leesburg, 243-5722 for South Lake, or the Sumter Campus at 352-568-0001 for The Villages.

LSCCs Continuing Education office will also be hosing its Young Writers' Camp, June 30 through July 10. Offered during eight half-day sessions, from 1:30 until 4:45 pm, the annual Leesburg Campus camp enhances the skills of budding young 4th through 7th grade authors and poets. Student-to-teacher ratio is low, which allows for great interaction between the students and the experienced instructors, so register early by calling 365-3556.

The Central Florida Youth Orchestras Sounds of Summer Instrumental Music Camp will be held from July 7 through 18, 9 am until 1:30 pm, for students between the ages of 6 to 19. Beginning students of the violin, viola, cello and bass, as well as young musicians currently playing strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion can enroll in either one-week or two-week sessions. Classes will run Mondays through Thursdays on LSCCs Leesburg Campus and Fridays in Leesburgs Cultural Arts Building in Venetian Gardens. For more information call 787-4838.
