Lake-Sumter Community College Debuts Lineman Program
LEESBURG - Linemen students enrolled in Lake-Sumter Community College's Electrical Distribution Technology (EDT) program, demonstrated their training on May 1 to members of city governments and companies, who partnered with LSCC on establishing this new program. Students participated in numerous exercises on the Sumter Campus' new outdoor lab, built exclusively for this unique program.
The facility provides the opportunity for linemen students to gain practical experience climbing poles, working with power lines and bucket trucks, using special gear and equipment, and many other skills needed in this career. The LSCC program is sponsored by Sumter Electric Cooperative, and the cities of Leesburg, Bushnell and Mount Dora. Florida Progress Corporation was also a major contributer. On hand for the demonstation and program were: Bruce Hickle-City of Bushnell, Ron Stock-City of Leesburg, Bob Bruck-City of Leesburg, Vince Ruano-City of Bushnell, Jim Vaughn-LSCC's EDT Program Manager and Instructor, Karen Robinson-SECO, Jim Thigpen-LSCC's Sumter Campus Adminstrator, and Evan Todd-SECO.
Lake-Sumter Community College Sumter Campus Administrator Jim Thigpen presented SECO's Evan Todd an appreciation plaque for helping the College develop the new Electrical Distribution Technology program. Jim and Evan worked together for almost two years to develop the lineman courses.
