In the News... Lake-Sumter Community College to Offer Fun and Educational Summer Camps LEESBURG - A younger group of students will be taking classes on Lake-Sumter Community College campuses this summer when the college hosts several camps designed for children between 5 to 12 years of age, and older if youre a young musician. LSCCs Kids College will once again offer many fun and educational courses that have made the annual camp so popular. Classes are designed for students who will be entering the 2nd through 7th grades (ages 7 to 12) and will offer a selection of topics to fit any interest...sports, crafts, science, cooking, acting, ceramics, magic, dance, computer classes and more! LSCC has expanded its South Lake Campus Kids College program this year and will now offer 23 different mini-camps. The addition of camps will give students the opportunity to take two different subjects in any half-day session and four different subjects during the full-day sessions, announced Continuing Education Manager Cathy Melendez. If they enroll in both of the two-week sessions, they can take eight different classes. New Kids College classes to be offered at the Clermont site will be: Babysitting, Brain Builders, Computer PowerPoint, Explorers and Rangers, Fairy Tale Theater, On Camera!, Sewing Boxers and Kites, and Sewing and Crafts. Children can enroll for a full day which runs from 9 am until 4 pm; or half-day sessions, either 9 am until 12:15 pm or 12:45 until 4 pm. Kids bring their own lunches to the full day camps. Late care is available from 4 until 5:15 pm. Costs for each of the two-week sessions are: $66 for half days or $132 for full days. LSCCs Leesburg Campus will also be hosting its Kids College for two two-week sessions on Mondays through Thursdays, June 7 through 17 and again June 21 through July 1. Some of the new courses to be offered on that campus as well will include: Bowling and Badminton, Glue Glitter and Glow, Scrap-Booking and Photo-Journaling, Pottery, Yoga and Writing. Times and prices are the same for both campuses. Call the South Lake Campus at 352-243-5722 or Leesburg Campus at 352-365-3556 for information and to register. The Continuing Education office will be glad to send you schedules for the South Lake and/or the Leesburg programs, or you can visit the LSCC website at: www.lscc.edu. LSCCs Continuing Education office will also be hosting its Young Writers' Camp, Mondays through Thursdays, starting July 5 and continuing through July 15. Offered during eight half-day sessions, from 1:30 until 5 pm, the annual Leesburg Campus camp enhances the skills of budding young 4th through 7th grade authors and poets. Student-to-teacher ratio is low, which allows for great interaction between the students and the experienced instructors, so register early by calling 352-365-3556. The Central Florida Youth Orchestras annual Sounds of Summer Music Camp will be held from July 5 through July 16, for students between the ages of 5 to 22. Beginning students of the violin, viola, cello and bass, as well as more advanced musicians currently playing strings, woodwinds and brass can enroll in either one-week or two-week sessions. Classes will run Mondays through Fridays on LSCCs Leesburg Campus. For more information on this musical camp call 352-787-4838. |
