Lake-Sumter Community College Hosts High School Academic Competition

LEESBURG - Over 80 Lake and Sumter County high schools students competed in Lake-Sumter Community College's annual Hi-Q Tournament Friday (April 23). Academic teams from: East Ridge, Eustis, Leesburg, Mount Dora, South Lake, Tavares, and Wildwood high schools and Montverde Academy competed in the round-robin competition in the Everett A. Kelly Convocation Center. Trophies were presented to the top three finishing teams. Montverde Academy came in first, Eustis High School placed second and Leesburg High School earned third-place honors.

This year, for the first time, a Junior Varsity Tournament was held with competitors from Montverde Academy and Eustis, Leesburg, Mount Dora and Wildwood high schools. Certificates were given to first-place winner Mount Dora High School, Eustis High School for second place and to Leesburg High School for third place.

The Hi-Q Tournament is hosted and facilitated by LSCCs Brain Bowl team, which competes in similar collegiate tournaments across Florida and the southeast U.S. LSCC Brain Bowl members are: Krystal Bedard, Alex DePasquale, Delrose Tobie, Kathy Montaudo, Scott Williams, Tim Welton (captain) and Justin Womath . The team's coaches are Beth McNulty and Dr. Carolyn Meyer.
