Lake-Sumter Community College to Host Regional Meeting of Math Instructors LEESBURG - Lake-Sumter Community Colleges South Lake Campus has been chosen as the site of the annual meeting of the Central Florida Region Mathematical Association of America on January 16. Starting at 12 noon, the days agenda includes two featured speakers. James Lang, of Valencia Community College, will open the conference with Euler's Formula, while Dr. Lee Armstrong, of UCF, will make the final presentation Reflections on 40 Years of Teaching Math. There will also be eight break-out sessions covering a variety of topics. Subjects and facilitators are: "Surveying Students to Promote Retention" "The Ambiguous Case: Analysis and Automation" "Empowering College Students to Become Active Learners at the Developmental Mathematics Level" "Getting Personal in Introductory Statistics" "Animations and Graphics for Teaching Calculus" "Using The Departmental Homepage to post Information and Course Materials" "Mathematics Education at a Cross Road" "Active Learning: Mathematical Constructions for College Algebra" Though the topics are of particular interest to math instructors, the sessions are open to the public.
