Lake-Sumter Community College Continues Its Popular Summer Camps

LEESBURG - A younger group of students will be taking classes on Lake-Sumter Community College campuses this summer when the college continues its fun and educational camps.

The Leesburg Campus will host another two-week session of its popular Kids College on Mondays through Thursdays, June 21 through July 1. Classes are designed for students who will be entering the 2nd through 7th grades (ages 7 to 12) and offer a selection of topics to fit any interest. Some of the new courses offered on the Leesburg Campus include: Bowling and Badminton, Glue Glitter and Glow, Scrap-Booking and Photo-Journaling, Pottery, Yoga and Writing. LSCC has expanded its South Lake Campus Kids College program this year and will now offer 23 different mini-camps during its two two-week sessions on Mondays through Thursdays, July 5 through 15 and again July 19 through 29. New Kids College classes at the Clermont site will be: Babysitting, Brain Builders, Computer PowerPoint, Explorers and Rangers, Fairy Tale Theater, On Camera!, Sewing Boxers and Kites, and Sewing and Crafts. Kids College participants at either site can enroll for a full day which runs from 9 am until 4 pm; or half-day sessions, either 9 am until 12:15 pm or 12:45 until 4 pm. Kids bring their own lunches to the full day camps. Late care is available from 4 until 5:15 pm. Cost for each two-week session is: $66 for half days or $132 for full days. Call the Leesburg Campus at 365-3556 or the South Lake Campus at 243-5722 for information and to register, or visit the LSCC website at: www.lscc.edu.

LSCCs Continuing Education office will also be hosting its Young Writers' Camp, Mondays through Thursdays, starting July 5 and continuing through July 15 on the Leesburg Campus. With the goal of enhancing the skills of budding young 4th through 7th grade authors and poets, the Camp meets during eight half-day sessions, from 1:30 until 5 pm. Student-to-teacher ratio is low, which allows for great interaction between the students and the experienced instructors, so register early by calling 365-3556.

The Central Florida Youth Orchestras annual Sounds of Summer Music Camp will be held from July 5 through July 16, for students between the ages of 5 to 22. Beginning students of the violin, viola, cello and bass, as well as more advanced musicians currently playing strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion can enroll in either one-week or two-week sessions. Classes will run Mondays through Fridays on LSCCs Leesburg Campus. For more information on this musical camp call 787-4838.
