Lake-Sumter Community College Grad Earns State Award

LEESBURG - Kara Kobylka, a recent Lake-Sumter Community College graduate, has been named the 2004 Florida Cooperative Education Student of the Year for Community Colleges by the Florida Career Professionals Association (FCPA). During the past year, Kara completed two co-op (work/study) programs. One in facility management and one in sports medicine through the USA National Triathlon Training Center. It was a pleasure to work with Kara, said LSCC instructor Debra Dabney, her faculty advisor, and an honor to nominate her to represent LSCCs Cooperative Education program. Kara will receive her plaque and a $300 scholarship during FCPAs annual conference in Cocoa Beach this month.

During LSCCs May 2004 Commencement, Kara was awarded both an Associate in Arts degree and an Associate in Science degree in Sports and Fitness. She was a member of: academic honorary Phi Theta Kappa, Whos Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges, the All-USA and All-Florida Academic Teams, and served as an LSCC Diplomat. She plans to continue her education in sports medicine at Stetson University.

FCPA is the professional organization for Job Placement and Cooperative Education in the Florida community college and university system, as well as the professional organization representing human resources professionals and college recruiters.
