Musicals, Art and Languages...Just Some of the Topics Offered on Lake-Sumter Community Colleges Leesburg Campus

LEESBURG - Explore the plot, settings and songs of some of your favorite musicals such as Oklahoma, Showboat, South Pacific and West Side Story during Lake-Sumter Community Colleges American Musical Theater class. One complete piece will presented through recordings, videos and live performances, then discussed in each class. The series starts on March 23 and continues each Tuesday through April 27, from 4 until 5:30 pm. Cost is $43.

Explore individual experiences and organize them into interesting prose during Lake-Sumter Community Colleges Creative Writing class starting March 18. A variety of approaches will be utilized to create everything from essays to short stories. Classes will meet on Thursdays on the Leesburg Campus, from 2 until 4 pm, through April 22. Cost of the course is $63.

Romance and Hollywood from the 40s to Now will be the entertaining topic of Films, Films, Films series. The class will meet on Wednesdays, March 24 through April 14, from 5 until 7 pm. Cost is $48.

If art is more your calling, you can learn the basics of Watercolor Painting. In addition to emphasizing tools and exercises, the class will cover color theory, composition, techniques, presentation and marketing your work. Starting March 22, the course continues through April 26, and meets on Mondays, from 2-5 pm. Cost is $63.

Learn to count, tell time, ask for directions, order food and give greeting in Kiswahili... the most widely spoken language in Africa. In addition to useful phrases, the LSCC course will emphasize conversational skills. It will meet on Wednesdays, from March 17 though April 21, 4 until 6 pm. The cost is $59.

Beginning Conversational Spanish, Level 1, will also be offered for those wishing to study the basics of yet another language on Thursdays, starting March 18. Learn to carry on simple, useful, everyday conversations. Classes meet from 6:30 until 8:15 pm, through May 6. Cost of the course is $56. Nurses completing the class will be awarded 16 hours.
