In the News... Lake-Sumter Community College Recognized with State Awards
English Instructor Melanie Wagner was runner-up in the Florida Professor of the Year Competition. Initially nominated by fellow LSCC FACC members, Wagner first auditioned before FACCs Faculty Commission in April. She was one of three finalists selected to advance to the state competition last month. The decision for first place was so close that a tie-breaking methodology had to be used. Her award-winning presentation helped the audience look at the Appalachian poem The Brier Losing Touch with His Traditions, by Jim Wayne Miller. LSCCs college relations and marketing department won two awards. One for its 2004 Catalog and Student Handbook and another for the new LOIS (Lake-Sumter Community College Online Interactive Services) logo. The Odyssey, LSCCs student literary magazine also earned the Award of Excellence in its category. Two entries are awarded in each marketing/publications category. One for schools with under 5,000 enrollment and another for those with over 5,000 students. The LSCC chapter received two membership awards for the percentage of employees who are FACC members, and selected Kathy Dawson as its Unsung Hero award. |
