Writing, Boating, Archaeology and Computers Run the Gamut of Lake-Sumter Community College Classes
LEESBURG - Have you always wanted to see your
stories featured in a national magazine? Now you can hone your literary skills
during Lake-Sumter Community Colleges Creative Writing-Short Stories
course. Starting February 17, the classes meet on
consecutive Thursdays through March 31, from 2 until 4 pm. You will examine the
elements of fiction from structure, characterization and settings, to creating
conflict and tension. Then, learn to use these elements to create energetic
prose that is cohesive, unified and moving. The classes are designed for both
the beginner and the experienced, but do require a home computer, printer and
internet access. Cost of the course is $63. Call LSCCs Corporate and Community
Service office at 365-3556 to register for this and the other Leesburg Campus
non-credit classes listed below...
If you are a science and history fan, you will enjoy Archaeology, Level 2
which highlights major 20th Century discoveries
in the Near/Middle East. Topics will explore the significance in understanding
the ancient civilizations in this region and the contributions made by major
archaeologists covering the periods from 10,000 to 0 BC. Classes meet on
Thursdays, February 17 through March 31, from 10 am until 12 noon. Cost is $45.
A useful class for many Lake County residents is Basic Electricity for
Boaters. Learn electrical theory and practice, as
well as increase your knowledge of DC electricity, the use a Volt-Ohm-Meter, and
troubleshooting /installation techniques. The classes will meet two Saturdays,
February 12 and 19, from 9 until 12 noon. Cost of the course is $37.
