In the News... Lake-Sumter Community College to Honor Graduates LEESBURG - Two hundred and seventy-five students will be awarded their Lake-Sumter Community College diplomas this year, with over 170 participating in this Fridays (May 6) 42nd Annual Commencement Ceremony. Friends and family, as well as LSCC faculty and staff, will gather in the Leesburg Campus Everett A. Kelly Convocation Center to cheer on the accomplishments of these hard-working students.
Delrose Tobie has earned the honor of being the 2005 Student Commencement Speaker. Upon her nomination by a faculty member, Tobie auditioned before a selection committee prior to being chosen as the student bodys representative. She will share the highlights of her three years at LSCC, as one of its non-traditional students. The 44 year old Eustis resident, moved to Lake County in 1996. Originally from Jamaica, she started her own medical transcription business in 1998, but decided to continue her education to become a nurse. She will join the LSCC Class of 2005 with an Associate in Science degree in nursing and hopes to continue her studies toward a four-year degree in the same field at UCF.
During the May 6th
ceremony, Academic Excellence Awards will be presented to the students with the
highest grade point average, while the Presidents Award, based on leadership,
service and scholarship, is a traditional surprise announcement. Adding to the
significance of Commencement will be the awarding of the nursing professions
symbolic pin to each of that departments 2005 graduates. Another impressive
accomplishment of the Class of 2005 is that three of the future LSCC alumni are
dual-enrollment students, earning their high school and college diplomas the
same month. This impressive accomplishment was achieved by: Emily Perkins of
Leesburg High School, and home-schooled students Lauren Atchley and Elizabeth
Haynes. |
