In the News... Lake-Sumter Community College Writers and Artists Win Press Association Awards LEESBURG - Lake-Sumter Community Colleges student publications earned six first place honors and numerous other awards during the October 14th-16th Florida Community College Press Associations annual convention held in Ft. Lauderdale. LSCC competes in Division A, which includes schools with less than 6500 students. The 2003-2004 staff of The Angler, LSCCs student newspaper, walked away with six awards, including first place for Marilyn Aciego for general column, Carol Wishard for humor writing, and Kevin Wiser for arts review. Second place editorial honors went to Isaac Johnson, while Ru Houston and Tammy Peshek won third place for news story and in-depth reporting respectively. Faculty advisor for The Angler is Melinda Simmons. LSCC students whose work was selected for inclusion in the colleges annual literary magazine Odyssey had the additional honor of winning Press Association awards as well. First place awards went to Jon Napoles and Christyle M. Pate for poetry; Sandra Cook, Jessica Leigh Mellmer and Katherine Miner for art; and Marilyn Aciego, Sandra Cook, Scott Perry and Jack Stewart for design. Earning second place for poetry was Jon Napoles. Third place for art went Sandra Cook, who along with Marilyn Aciego, Jack Stewart and Amanda Whitford also won third place for cover design.
