Lake-Sumter Community College President Honored
LEESBURG (April 11, 2006) - Nine people were honored on March 29, during the
annual
Lake County Community Service Awards Banquet. One of those notables was
Lake-Sumter Community College President Dr. Charles Mojock, recognized for his
contributions to education.
Barbara Perry, program director of Leadership Lake County, one of the banquets
sponsors, said the committee of judges received more than 100 nominations from
the community for the eight categories. Selected by a panel of judges, the
Awards usually recognize citizens for a lifetime of work within the Lake County
community. Serving as LSCCs president since 2002, Dr. Mojocks selection
emphasized the impact he has made on LSCC and entire community within a short
four years.
Some
of those successes are creating invaluable community partnerships resulting in
joint-use projects such as the new library and softball complex on the South
Lake Campus, and leading the college during its most dramatic growth from a
full-time equivalent enrollment of 1,825 in 2002 to 2,339 in 2005, with a more
than a 136 percent increase in minority students. During his tenure, he
generated community support that increased contributions to the LSCC Foundation
from $50,000 in 2001 to $287,000 in 2005, and spearheaded the acquisition of
more than $1.1 million in state grants for nursing, teacher certification and
utility lineman programs.
Just a of few of the Lake County Boards on which Dr. Mojock serves include the
American Cancer Society, Industrial Development Authority, Metro Orlando
Economic Development Commission, South Lake Chamber of Commerce, United Way and
Workforce Central Florida. Professional offices held are vice-chair of the
Southern Association of Community, Junior and Technical Colleges, vice-chair of
O-Force, chair of Lake Shared Services Network Executive Roundtable, and
chair-elect of the Florida Association of Community Colleges Council of
Presidents.
Other Community Service Award recipients were Katherine Cook, arts and culture;
Guy Smiley Merry, business achievement; Molner, sports and athletics;Gwendolyn
Manning, public service; Greg Padgett, community service leadership;Sara Jane
Hewitt, humanitarian.NickandJohnson both garnered special judges awards.
