LAKE-SUMTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR ACADEMIC
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
LEESBURG (April 25, 2006) - Sixteen students were inducted into Lake-Sumter
Community College's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa on April 18, the international
honor society for community colleges. Twice a year, students who have completed
a minimum of fifteen credit hours and have earned a 3.5 grade point average or
above are invited for membership due to their high academic achievement.
Spring 2006 inductees recognized during a candle-lighting ceremony in the
Leesburg Campus Magnolia Room before an audience of parents, friends and LSCC
faculty and staff were (alphabetical): Constance B. Bame, Vicky L. Bennett,
Jennie Lee Brunold, Jaime Nicole Caple, Libby Grace Couch, Jennifer Lin Creson,
Nancy Rae Fulton, John William Hicks, Bryan Tyler Kemp, Janaye Christine Marcil,
Kimberly Dawn McLaughlin, Susan D. Mulvany, Christina Victoria Tokics, Sonal
Wadhwa, Brandy Marie Young and Weihua Zheng.
Six Lake-Sumter Community College students were nominated to Phi Theta Kappas
All-USA Academic Team. Two students from each campus may be submitted by the
college president, based on outstanding academic performance (3.25 min. GPA) and
service to the college and community. These six nominees then become members of
the All-Florida Academic Team and are honored each April during a reception and
awards ceremony in Tallahassee. Team members were also recognized during the
colleges District Board of Trustees meeting on April 18. This years All-USA
nominees and All-Florida Academic Team members are Benjamin Burl Abbott, Brent
V. Balkaran, Danielle Nicole Beville (one of only 30 Florida students who earned
First Team honors), Allan Leonor, Dawn Marie McMahon and Kristin Nichole
Rieckmann. Instructors Dr. Bob Keefer and Thom Kieft are PTK advisors.
