Lake-Sumter Community College to Host Bluegrass/Gospel
Scholarships Concert
LEESBURG - A trio of talented young vocalists and musicians will entertain the
whole family March 20 and 21, at Lake-Sumter Community College, when the
Rivertown Girls perform traditional bluegrass and gospel favorites. Their
talents on the banjo, mandolin and the fiddle are more appreciated by the fact
that the oldest members of the trio are 14 years old. Carolyne Van Lierop and
Mary Cathryn Smith are both 14 and Sharlyn Marie Smith is only 12 years of age.
Though young in years, the seasoned performers are in demand for bluegrass
festivals and concerts throughout the year. The Saturday, March 20 evening,
concert starts at 7 pm and the Sunday, March 21 matinee begins at 3 pm, in the
LSCC Leesburg Campus Paul P. Williams Fine Arts Center Auditorium. Tickets for
adults are $15 and children are $8. Proceeds will benefit the colleges chapter
of the Florida Association of Community Colleges' scholarship fund. Tickets will
be available at the door, or call 323-3603.
