Lake-Sumter Community College Hosts Information Sessions
for Teacher Certification Program for Non-education Graduates
LEESBURG (Feb. 9, 2006) - If you have always wanted to be a teacher, yet have a
bachelors degree in another field, Lake-Sumter Community Colleges new
Alternative Certification Program can provide you with the opportunity to make
such a career change. Having successfully debuted in January, the program will
begin its next seven-course series on May 5. Classes continue through November 4
and include the supplemental education required to teach in K-12 schools. High
need teaching areas in Lake and Sumter Counties include math, science, English,
ESE, and early childhood pre-K through 3rd grade.
Find out more about this program and submit your application for enrollment
during the free information sessions offered in Leesburg, South Lake and Sumter
County. The first will be held on LSCCs Leesburg Campus, on February 18, from
9:30 until 10:30 a.m., in room #116 of the Health Sciences Building. A South
Lake Campus (Clermont) session will be held February 20, from 5:30 until 6:30
p.m., in room 117 of Building One. Two Sumter County sessions will be held;
March 8 in the Sumter County/Villages Annex Buildings conference room, from 11
a.m. until 12 noon; another on the Sumter Campus, in Sumterville, on March 10,
from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m., in the Student Services Building, room 4107.
Bring a copy of your transcript from a regionally-accredited college or
university and you can start the application process immediately. For more

The Alternative Certification Program is part of the Florida Department of
Educations Educator Preparation Institute. With a projected need of up to
35,000 new teachers, this innovative teacher-education program was developed to
encourage people to enter the profession.
