Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Activities
Continue this Weekend
LEESBURG - Jan. 12, 2006 - Advancing the Dream is this years theme for the
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday events and this weekend gets off to an
energetic start with the 5K Adult or the 1K Kiddie Run For Your Dream on
Saturday (January 14). The race will take place around Leesburgs Silver Lake
and will start with a 7 a.m. congregation in LSCCs Everett A. Kelly Convocation
Center Gym. Participants can register that morning for $15 and will receive a
t-shirt, snacks and bottled water. Trophies and certificates will also be
awarded. An Ecumenical Service will be held on Sunday evening (January 15), Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr.s birthday, at 6 p.m. The service will be hosted by
First United Methodist Church, 600 South Grove Street, in Eustis, and will
feature guest speaker Reverend Richard E. King, pastor of Eustis St. James
African Methodist Episcopal Church. Activities conclude Monday (January 16),
with an Awards & Recognition Ceremony, at 10 a.m., in LSCCs Paul P. Williams
Fine Arts Center Auditorium. Featured that day will be the works of middle, high
school and Lake-Sumter Community College students competing in the Third Annual
Student Literacy Contest. Cash prizes, trophies and scholarships will be
awarded. The program will also contain memorable moments that will allow the
significance of the remembrance to linger in your hearts, souls and minds.
The public is cordially invited to all of the events. Holiday activities are
sponsored by: the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Committee of Lake
and Sumter Counties and Lake-Sumter Community College. For more information call
