June 15, 2006 High School Bright Futures Medallion Scholars To Receive Full Tuition at Lake-Sumter Community College LEESBURG - June 15, 2006 - Beginning this fall term, August 24, students who enroll at Lake-Sumter Community College with Florida Bright Futures Medallion Scholarships will receive 100 percent of their tuition and lab fees for credit courses leading toward a two-year associate degree.
The 2006 Florida Legislature passed an amendment which would give these high school graduates the opportunity to receive full tuition when attending a community college as a degree-seeking student. The same Bright Futures Medallion Scholarships only pay for 75 percent of a student’s tuition when attending a state university.
Lake-Sumter Community College’s tuition has always been lower than that of state universities and private schools. Its multiple locations and flexible class schedules make it possible to live at home and work while earning a degree, and its lower student-to-teacher ratio creates a personalized and supportive environment. Now, with the additional 25 percent scholarship incentive, LSCC is even a better choice for “A Great Education Close to Home.”
The Medallion Scholars Award is part of the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program, which rewards high school graduates for academic achievement. For more information about this and other scholarship, grant, loan and work-study programs, call LSCC’s Financial Assistance office at 365-3512, 352-243-5722, or 568-0001. Students interested in applying for financial aid need to do so now. Open registration for LSCC’s fall term begins July 24. There are several enrollment steps that need to be completed prior to registering online, so the process needs to start now for the best choice of courses.
