CEREMONY KICKS OFF CONSTRUCTION OF LAKE-SUMTER COMMUNITY COLLEGES NEW SCIENCE
BUILDING
LEESBURG (June 29, 2006) - Lake-Sumter Community College held a Ground Breaking
Ceremony for its planned 52,000 sq. ft. Science Building on June 29. The
two-story $8,850,000 Leesburg Campus facility is to be completed in time for
fall classes in August of 2007. Special guests for the occasion included Florida
Community College System Chancellor David Armstrong and State Representatives
Alan Hayes and Hugh Gibson.

The ceremonial first-shovel of dirt represents the start of
construction on Lake-Sumter Community Colleges new Science Building on its
Leesburg Campus. Participating in the June 29th Ceremony were l-r: Florida
Association of Colleges & Universities Executive Director Bob Westrick, Florida
Community College System Chancellor David Armstrong, Bill Hanser of Schwab,
Twitty & Hanser Architects, Board of Trustees Chairman Jackie Talley, President
Chuck Mojock, Trustees Carole Winter, Linda Cavanaugh & Margo Odom, Rep. Alan
Hays, Rep. Hugh Gibson, Trustee Joe Norman and John Carlson of PPI Construction.
The much-needed new addition will be located adjacent to LSCCs Health Sciences
Center and provide over four times more space and the latest technology for the
schools science programs. The current 12,000 sq. ft. building, used for both
science and math classes, was one of LSCCs original structures when the
colleges first campus opened in 1965. The new state-of-the-art facility will
have twelve large labs for classes in chemistry, biology, physics, anatomy and
physiology, microbiology, physical science, geology and environmental science,
as well as ten multi-functional classrooms and faculty offices.
