Lake-Sumter Community College Students Celebrate the Diversity of the Thanksgiving Holiday

LEESBURG - Nov. 21, 2005 - Festive clothing adorned Lake-Sumter Community Colleges Leesburg Campus Student Center last Wednesday (Nov. 16), when students of different nationalities wore their native clothing during the colleges annual Multi-Cultural Thanksgiving Celebration. The variety of ethnic backgrounds were not only apparent in the wardrobes, but also in a delicious buffet of exotic dishes. Students, faculty and staff created receipts from: America, Bengali, Bermuda, Egypt, Hawaii, Jamaica, Mexico, the Philippines and Thailand.

After the multi-cultural meal, a Thanksgiving holiday reflection was offered by guest speaker Rod White Eagle Wilson. A member of the Wolf Clan of the Cherokee Nation, Wilson offered a unique look at the holiday from a Native American perspective.

Sponsored by LSCCs Equity & Diversity Committee and Student Activities office, the event culminated with an international fashion show presented by the students.Rod White Eagle Wilson (above, right) represented the Cherokee Nation during LSCCsThanksgiving holiday reflection.
