Lake-Sumter Community College To Be a Key Player in Educational Consortium LEESBURG - The board of trustees of Lake-Sumter Community College approved a resolution during its October meeting that will expand students access to University of Central Florida bachelors degree programs. Along with Seminole, Valencia and Brevard community colleges, LSCC and UCF have created a consortium agreement that will streamline university transfers, expand UCF program offerings to community college graduates, and help create a competitive workforce in Central Florida. Due to the projected growth of the areas educational demands, LSCC and the other community colleges want to assure that the regional needs of its students are met. A ceremonial signing of such a resolution by community college and UCF trustees and presidents will be held on UCFs Orlando Campus on Nov. 9, symbolizing the continued commitment to this educational partnership. A regional approach like this consortium makes great sense, states LSCC Board Chairman Jacqueline Talley. Institutions can plan together to ensure that needed programs are available without costly duplication. Centers of Excellence can be created in various regions based upon local workforce demands and institutional expertise, while serving as magnets to encourage students to further their education. Lake-Sumter Community Colleges Associate in Arts degree graduates have
always been guaranteed acceptance into state universities, but through the
signing of this 2+2 commitment, students will have additional opportunities to
earn four-year degrees. A first in Florida, the resolution will also assure a
regional partnership that more deeply aligns its systems, policies and
procedures; resulting in a seamless transition for students. Other benefits will
be preferential UCF admission for consortium community college graduates,
expanded opportunities for joint-use facilities and joint faculties, and more
efficient data sharing. |
