Lake-Sumter Community College Receives Best Places to Work
in Lake & Sumter Counties Award
LEESBURG - During its second annual awards luncheon, the Best Places to Work in
Lake and Sumter Counties program awarded Lake-Sumter Community College its
highest recognition for organizations with over 250 employees. This
accomplishment is especially impressive because we were included in the large
employer category, said LSCC President Dr. Charles Mojock who accepted the
award during the September 1st event. This means we were competing with
hospitals, city and county governments and big-business employers! LSCC has 329
full and part-time employees. LSCC is able to compete for such awards because
of the outstanding leadership and vision of our Board of Trustees and their
commitment to recognizing and rewarding our faculty and staff, added Dr. Mojock.
Human Resources Director Tim Kane also conducted a comprehensive analysis of
LSCCs strengths and weaknesses which enabled us to develop a positive work
environment based on fairness and respect."
Presented by Ed Holder and Associates and co-sponsored by the Metro Orlando
Economic Development Commission and twenty-one Central Florida organizations,
the awards program first categorizes participating companies by number of
employees, 50 or less, 51-250 and 251 or more. It then asks each to complete a
survey of forty objective and measurable questions. Personnel Dynamics
Consulting of Fort Pierce then documents the responses and tabulates information
such as: rate of turnover; promotion and work injuries; training and development
opportunities; organization growth; opportunities for women and minorities;
salary and benefit programs; employee satisfaction and participation in
decisions. By weighing this data, the consulting firm determines which
businesses excel in workforce recruitment and retention, thus deserving the
Best Places To Work in Lake & Sumter Counties recognition. With this
information, the program can raise workplace standards and educate employers in
how to develop a quality workforce that meets the demands of a changing business
environment, so they too can become an employer of choice.
