Governor Bush Appoints New Lake-Sumter Community College
Trustee
LEESBURG - Margo Odom is the newest appointee to the
Lake-Sumter Community College District Board of Trustees. She fills the vacancy
left by former trustee Dr. Alan Hays (R-25) after his election to the Florida
House of Representatives. Governor Jeb Bush made the announcement on August 8.
The nine-member Board is made up of five representatives from Lake County and
four from Sumter County. Appointed by the governor every four years, members of
the LSCC District Board of Trustees govern and set policies for the college.
Selected to represent Lake County, Odom was born in Eustis, resides in Umatilla
and has lived in Florida her whole life. An LSCC graduate, she completed her
Bachelors degree at University of South Florida, then earned a Masters degree
in business and human resources from Rollins College. She started her career
with Sprint in 1977 and is currently the companys public affairs manager. In
this position, she serves as the primary liaison between Sprint and the
community, business and civic leaders in Lake, Sumter, and Pasco counties.
Active in many Central Florida organizations, Odom is the president of the
Educational Foundation of Lake County and past-president of the Leesburg Chamber
of Commerce. She has also been involved in the United Way, Boys and Girls Club
and March of Dimes, as well as WorkForce Central Florida, Lake County Industrial
Development Authority, Sumter County Development Council and the Metro-Orlando
Economic Development Council. Serving as the LSCC Foundation, Inc.s 2004-2005
president during its record-setting year of fundraising, Odom brings with her a
thorough working knowledge of the college and the communities which it serves.
Dr. Linda Cavanaugh,
of Sumterville, was also
reappointed to the by Governor Bush last month. Initially joining the Board
mid-term in 1999, Cavanaugh is starting her second full-term as a Sumter County
representative. A guidance counselor at South Sumter Middle School, Cavanaugh
serves as the Boards liaison to the colleges research and planning office.
