2009-2010 Degrees & ProgramsThe Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree is also known as the Transfer Degree or the University Parallel Program. It is designed to provide students with the courses needed for the first two years of a bachelor’s degree. Upon completion of the A.A. degree, students may transfer to a 4-year college or university to complete their undergraduate degree. Associate in Science (A.S.) degree is the career education and transfer degree of community colleges. This two-year degree is intended to prepare students for immediate entry into the workforce and some programs can lead to transfer to a higher degree in that same field in the State University System. Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree is the career education program consisting of college level courses that prepare students to directly enter the workforce instead of transferring to a university. Technical Certificates are shorter career education programs which are part of an A.S. or A.A.S. degree program and lead more quickly to employment in specific occupations. College credit hours earned in a Technical Certificate program can be applied towards a related Associate in Applied Science or Associate in Science degree. Other Programs
