TEACHING DIVERSE POPULATIONS: FALL 2010
Hello everyone! Homework for August 24th is to read chapters 1 and 2. Please be prepared to discuss with the other members of the class. We may even have a quiz or two!
Homework; Journal Entry #1 What do you think the phrase "good American" means?
*make sure to put your I AM...responses in your portfolio
Find any article on diversity in education: print off the article and bring to class, then write a brief summary and opinion of the article. Please check the syllabus for how the paper should be set up.
Read Chapters 3 and 4 ( maybe a quiz)

Journal Emtry #2 How might you design experiences that move students from an ethnocentric orientation to one that is more ethnorelative?
Find a lesson for teaching diversity in the classroom. Be prepared to share with the class. Please select a lesson that pertains to a grade-level you are interested in teaching. Bring a copy of the lesson in to class.
Due October 19th:
No homework; however, those students that were absent when the Cultural Portrait was due (October 12th) please review the syllabus. Late assignments do not have to be accepted. Points will be deducted if assignment is accepted.
Due October 26th:
Be prepared for quiz on chapter 5
Find any article on a diversity in education topic: summarize and give your opinion
Journal Entry #3: Do you believe all people display prejudice? If so, in what ways do you display prejudice?
Read chapter 6
Due November 2nd:
Don't forget to vote!!
Find a qoute about education that you agree or disagree with. Bring in qoute and be prepared to share it along with the reason you agree or disagree.

Journal Entry #4: Do you remember a time when you attended a religious service with someone of a different denomination or faith? What was it like? Did it feel strange to you? Why?
Article Review # 3: complete a summary and opinion of any article dealing with religion AND education. Don't forget to bring article.
Read Chapter 9-quiz?!
Portfolios are due November 30th: All observations and interviews should be completed and documented. Reflection paper should be complete.
