Federal GrantsLSCC participates in several grant programs. Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)The Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) is a grant intended to encourage high school students to complete challenging and rigorous coursework in high school which will more likely increase their success in college and lead them to pursue college majors which are in high demand in the global economy. The post-secondary institution uses the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to aid in the determination of the student’s award amount. In addition, ACG is a need-based grant and may not, in conjunction with other gift or need-based loans or work, exceed the student’s need.
Federal Pell Grant (PELL)The Pell Grant is a need-based federal grant program for students who are seeking their first undergraduate degree or teacher certification program. The annual Pell Grant award amount is determined by a student’s EFC and enrollment status. Pell Grants are intended to be the basic type of aid and may be combined with other forms of aid in order to meet the student’s financial need. Students do not have to be enrolled full-time to receive a Pell Grant award. The amount actually paid to students from the Federal Pell Grant will be prorated if a student enrolls for less than 12 credits in any given term. Students must begin attending all of their classes on the first day. If a student is withdrawn for non-attendance prior to the actual payment of Pell Grant funds, payment for the withdrawn class(es) may not be made. Federal Pell Grant award may be used for the equivalent of two full-time terms each year. This means that if a student is full-time fall and spring terms, the student will not have funding available for summer term. Part-time students may use their remaining eligibility in the summer term.Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG)The Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) Program is a source of grant aid sponsored by the federal government. In order to be eligible for SEOG assistance, a student must be enrolled at least half-time, demonstrate exceptional financial need, and be a Pell Grant recipient. Exceptional financial need is determined by a systematic and consistent need analysis system. Priority is given to students who apply by April 16th.
