To: Members of the Lake County Medical, Health and Health-related Business Community: We are seeking your input on the new Heath Science Education Joint Project of the Lake County School District, Lake-Sumter Community College and South Lake Hospital for Lake County students. We would appreciate it if you would take a few minutes to complete the survey. Please use the link at the bottom of the page. Your input is very valuable to the development of this important collaborative project. This new health science high school will offer new educational opportunities for our district students that will lead to future employment in a variety of health related careers. The institution will serve students with a focused curriculum, preparing them for entry into high demand health occupations as well as preparing students to transfer to senior universities in medicine and health. It is envisioned that the health science-centered curriculum will consist of rigorous core courses and areas of concentration that will enable students to complete diplomas, degrees, licensures, and certifications from high school and college at the same time. Practicum experiences and academics will be integrated into the core health curriculum and in addition, the Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS) recommended skills (workplace know-how) would be embedded throughout the curriculum. Students will attend this health science high school for the academic coursework and return to their zoned home schools for extra-curricular activities. It is expected that a number of students will be dual-enrolled in college level courses while finishing their requirements for their high school diploma. Upon graduation from high school, students may elect to continue at LSCC, move directly to a four-year university, or enter the workforce. The success of this unique educational opportunity is dependent upon the input and support of the local health care industry. Please take a couple of minutes to reply to the short online survey.
