LSCC Learning Centers
INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS
It is the Learning Center's mission to provide a variety of programs and tools that will enable each LSCC student to achieve academic success. On a space-available basis, the Learning Centers also provide tutorial support for junior and senior level high-school students as well as persons from the community who are interested in improving their skills through independent study.
We can help you evaluate your academic strengths and weaknesses in reading, writing, and mathematical skills and then provide you with an individualized tutoring program that will help you reach your academic goals. We offer self-paced, computer assisted instruction in a number of subjects, a science room for the study of anatomy and physiology, and special needs testing facilities. We welcome your study and project groups to use our facilities. You can work with online programs, but if you need to have something more, we have both professional and student tutors to assist you. We can give you advice about your homework, projects, or essays. The Math Lab is ready to help you solve those tricky problems, from fractions to calculus.
We provide make-up testing at all three campuses, and distance learning tests and exams at the discretion of the institution that sponsors your course. Just call to make sure your tests have arrived in the Learning Center. Bring a PHOTO ID and allow yourself adequate time to complete the test before Lab closing hours.
During the regular semesters, the LC will be hosting monthly Tent Topics challenges that will test your knowledge and maybe even help you win a wonderful (!) prize or two. The Odyssey magazine fine arts contest and staff meetings will be conducted in the LCs this fall.
If you have what it takes to be a math or English tutor, or if you are bilingual and would like to work with students who are improving their language skills, please come by or contact us at learningcenter@lscc.edu. Part time jobs may be available.
INFORMATION FOR FACULTY
Feel free to come by and set up personalized supplemental learning programs for any student from review to enrichment levels. We will work with you to bring the best solutions to the table.
If you would like to bring an entire class to the center, just call ahead to make sure the facility will be available for you. Just let us know what topics you want to cover. If your class meets in the evening and you need extended hours, please let us know in advance so we can accommodate you.
We are still your makeup testing facility, and we will proctor any test in paper or online formats. Call us for assistance with setting up a makeup test if this procedure is new to you.
We are also planning to provide a Takeout Menu of PowerPoints and instructional aids that you can use in your classroom. The Takeout will continue to expand to include grammar, writing skills, presentation skills, research techniques, math concepts, and anything else you might want to order. You can serve these up yourself, or one of us will be happy to visit your class for the presentation.
If you are an adjunct and want a little corner to work in, we can provide some space for you. If you have an hour to spare and want to increase your student contact, please note that we gratefully accept guest tutors.
This is your LC - tell us what will make it work for you.
