Open Computer Lab Policies
The open computer labs within the libraries are available to both students and community members. The open labs on all campuses provide PCs that offer Internet access, the Microsoft Office suite of programs, as well as other course-related software. In addition, the Leesburg campus library also provides two iMac computers running Mac OS X, which do not have printing capability. Printing from PCs is 10 cents per page for black/white and 20 cents for color. A limited number of headphones are available for academic use. For recreational use, you may bring your own headphones. See General Information and Helpful Hints and the Information Systems Resources procedures for more information.
Classroom Computer Lab Policies
The classroom computer labs on the second floor of the South Lake Library and in the media center of the Leesburg Campus Library are available to both students and community members when no classes are in session. The policies and programs available are the same as above with the following exceptions: The computer classrooms are quiet work/study spaces - noise must be kept to a minimum, and headphones must be used. Children under the age of 16 are not allowed in the computer classroom unless they are enrolled in a College sponsored activity or program.
Online Subscription Databases
The libraries' subscription databases are available via the Internet to LSSC students, faculty and staff. These include periodicals and reference databases available from the Databases A-Z page as well as the eBooks in library catalog. Students and staff log on using their X-ID as the Borrower ID and your six-digit birth date as the PIN. Members of the public may access databases and eBooks on the library premises only.
Cell Phone Use
The LSSC libraries strive to maintain a quiet environment conducive to study and research. Library patrons will be asked to turn off cell phones or to switch to a silent signal and to take calls outside the library.
Children in the Library
To ensure their safety, do not leave children under the age of 16 unattended. LSSC Administrative Procedure PRO 2-06 states:
The College can assume no responsibility for the supervision of children on campus unless they are enrolled in a College sponsored activity or program. Accordingly, children are not permitted on campus unless they are under the constant, direct supervision of a responsible adult (parent, guardian, teacher, activity/program director, etc.)..
- Those individuals who fail to comply with these procedures will be asked to leave the campus and make appropriate arrangements for off-campus child-care.
- Security will be called if:
- Children are found unsupervised and no adult responsible for that child can be located;
- The adult responsible for the child refuses to cooperate.
Copying and Faxing
Copy services are available in all campus libraries at self service machines. The cost is 10 cents per page for black/white prints and 20 cents for color copies. Fax services are available for students or community members at $1 per page at the Cooper Memorial Library. Fax services are not available for students or community members at the Leesburg or Sumter campus libraries.
Group Study Rooms
The Leesburg library provides two rooms for group study on a first-come, first-served basis. The rooms are not soundproofed so noise must be tempered.
The South Lake Library provides seven rooms for group study on a first-come, first-served basis. Study rooms may also be reserved at least 24 hours in advance by signing up at the Reference Desk.
