Position Paper on the Effectiveness of the Death Penalty
The topic of the death penalty is multi-faceted and extremely controversial. Finding information is easy, but you must find a specific focus or else your paper will be hundreds of pages long. The websites below will help you to focus on specific aspects of this topic.
- American Civil Liberties Union's Death Penalty page includes arguments against the death penalty and news stories related to the topic.
- National Criminal Justice Reference Service's: Sentencing and Sactions provides lengthy articles that are relevant to this topic, including articles on alternatives to incarceration, the death penalty, incarceration, restitution, and restorative justice.
- The University College library at Broward Community College provides subject pathfinders for many topics, including one on the death penalty.

Finding Articles
Databases provide indexes for articles on a large variety of topics. LSCC has access to more than 70 databases on a range of topics. You can access databases alphabetically or by clicking on the subject categories below.
- General Databases provide articles on a wide variety of disciplines and usually provide sufficient information for most general research
- Law & Public Affairs Databases will provide articles about specific legal topics and will help you with more in-depth research.
- Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center and SIRS Researcher are two of the best databases for position papers. These databases present multiple arguments on a variety of topics, including the death penalty.
