Mission Statement

In support of the college's institutional mission and purpose, the mission of the Lake-Sumter Community College libraries is to serve LSCC students, faculty, staff, and the residents of Lake and Sumter counties by providing convenient access to a variety of services and resources that support and strengthen LSCC's commitment to student success.

The following goals support this mission:

  1. To provide organized and accessible collections of high quality print, audiovisual and electronic resources, and to provide access to remote information resources, in support of the college's instructional programs
  2. To provide physical facilities and technology equipment supporting teaching and learning
  3. To provide qualified professional and support staff to serve users
  4. To offer information literacy instruction for students, faculty, staff and community users in support of traditional and alternative methods of course delivery and utilizing a variety of instructional methods
  5. To provide a broad range of library services and to support an intellectual atmosphere that is conducive to the pursuit of knowledge and the examination of ideas
  6. To offer community users access to the resources and facilities of the college libraries in support of the college's mission as a public institution
  7. To cooperate with all types of libraries, library networks, and consortia in sharing resources and providing maximum access to information in a cost effective manner
  8. To support the college's joint-use endeavors by partnering with libraries and educational institutions to provide collections, facilities, and services in support of joint-use and cooperative programs that enhance educational and workforce development in local and statewide communities
  9. To evaluate library resources and services on a regular and systematic basis and to participate in the college's institutional planning and evaluation process
  10. To develop and assess innovative library services by keeping abreast of advancements and trends in the library and information technology professions.
