My path to Lake-Sumter began in a rather ordinary way. I'm of Cuban and Lebanese descent and was born and raised in Miami, Florida. After high school graduation, I took a part-time job in my local public library. I was attending Miami-Dade Community College at the time and planning on majoring in journalism. One day I went to work and dissolved into tears. I had realized that I wasn't cut out to be a journalist and that I was destined to be a college student forever bouncing from major to major and never finding anything to please me. A friend at the library bopped me on the head with a magazine (literally) and suggested I become a librarian. The rest is history.
I ended up majoring in English and earning a Bachelor's Degree from Florida International University. In 1995 my husband started for looking for a teacher's position in Florida and we ended up in Lake County. In September of 1995 I began working at the LSCC Library as a Library Technician. The following year, I enrolled in the Masters of Library and Information Science program at University of South Florida in Tampa. I attended a few classes on the campus, but most of the courses I took were over the Internet and at satellite locations around central Florida. I completed the program in August 1998. In September of that year I was promoted to Reference/Instruction Librarian at LSCC.
My husband, a teacher at Tavares High School, and I have been married since 1993. We live in Eustis with our two dogs, Max and Sherlock. I enjoy movies of all kinds and two of my all-time favorites are Field of Dreams and The Shawhank Redemption. Some of my other favorite hobbies include scrapbooking, crocheting, shopping, reading, and cooking.
